Knowledge Centre Manoeuvring in Shallow and Confined Water
The Knowledge Centre Manoeuvring in Shallow and Confined Water aims to consolidate, extend and disseminate knowledge on the behaviour of ships in shallow and confined water. This website gives an overview of our facilities, research activities and publications. The organization of the Knowledge Centre is that of a co-operation between Flanders Hydraulics and the Maritime Technology Division of Ghent University.

Practical info-
Our research activities deal with all aspects related to manoeuvring in shallow and confined water. These include the study of shallow water effects, bank effects, ship – ship interaction and ship hydrodynamics in a lock.
We dispose both of experimental and numerical facilities to conduct our research activities. The experimental facilities include the Towing Tank for Manoeuvres in Confined Water and the new Towing Tank for Manoeuvres in Shallow Water. In addition, we have several full mission bridge manoeuvring simulators, including a dedicated inland navigation simulator.
The proceedings of the MASHCON conferences, which we organize every four years, contain peer-reviewed papers on all aspects related to manoeuvring in shallow and confined water. For each MASHCON conference, open access experimental benchmark data are released. These benchmark data are principally used by researchers worldwide to validate numerical tools.
